## Adding competitors

On the **Competitors** page (`/dashboard/competitors`) click `+ Add competitor`. Each competitor has:

- **Name** — exactly as it appears in AI responses (e.g. *Salesforce*, not *salesforce.com*)
- **Domain** (optional) — used for citation cross-checks

Aim for 3–8 competitors. Fewer than 3 and benchmarks have no signal; more than 8 and the comparison view gets noisy.

## What the page shows

For each competitor:
- Mention frequency across your tracked prompts (last 7 days, last 30 days)
- Visibility share vs. yours
- Top 3 prompts where the competitor leads
- Trend delta — is the competitor gaining ground or losing it?

## Auto-discovered competitors

Even if you don't add competitors manually, AI responses **mention** other brands when answering your prompts. The Insights drill-down sheet exposes these — recurring names you didn't add are strong candidates for the competitors list.

<Tip>
**Workflow tip**: monthly, review the auto-discovered names. If a brand you've never heard of is being cited 3+ times across your prompts, add it to your list. They're a stealth competitor that AI engines already know about.
</Tip>

## Closing visibility gaps

Once a gap is visible, the workflow is:

1. Identify the prompt(s) where the competitor leads most
2. Inspect the AI response — what content/citation is the competitor winning with?
3. Generate a content brief targeting that prompt (Content Optimization)
4. Ship the piece, earn placements, monitor 2–4 weeks for the gap to close
